A little preparation on your side makes painting day faster, cleaner and less stressful. Here is the checklist we share with homeowners across Woodstock, Kitchener-Waterloo, Cambridge and London.
One to two weeks before
- Finalise your colours. Test samples on two walls in each room and look at them morning and evening.
- Decide on finishes. See our guide to the best paint finish for every room.
- Confirm the scope. Walls only, or ceilings, trim, doors and closets too? Make sure it matches your written quote.
- Plan around your household. Think about where kids, pets and work-from-home space will be during the project.
The day before
- Clear small items from shelves, walls and surfaces: photos, art, decor and electronics.
- Move small furniture out of the room if you can. We will move and cover larger pieces.
- Take down curtains and blinds, or ask us to.
- Empty closets that are being painted.
- Make sure there is parking close to the door for our vehicle.
On painting day
- Keep pets in a separate room or with a friend.
- Point out any problem areas you want extra attention on, like stains or cracks.
- Let us know about any wall-mounted TVs, alarm sensors or fixtures you want left in place.
- Keep windows slightly open if the weather allows. We use low-odour, low-VOC paints, but fresh air still helps.

- Spot-priming repairs and stains
- Cleaning up every day and doing a final walkthrough with you
After the paint is on
Most latex paints are dry to the touch within a few hours, but they take a few weeks to fully cure. During that time, wait before scrubbing walls, and hang pictures gently. Keep the leftover paint, labelled by room, for future touch-ups.
